Botanical Name :Vetiveria Zizanoides or Andropogon Muricatus
Common Name: Vetiver
Vetiver is a native to India that is known for its perfumery & medicinal value since ancient times. Vetiver is a gift of India to the modern world, & has its benefits of modern perfume creations. The Aroma of vetiver is musky, campfire like to me, smoky, strong & potent notes. Their is caution for vetiver to watch out for, its not good for people with sensitive skin, or sensitive noise people because this smell is quite long lasting, which will last in a single room for 1 hour or more. I would not have vetiver as a diffuser, on less its an necessity for my health! This smell should not be around small children at all.
Vetiver roots require plenty of sunlight & rain so that the soil can be rich & stable throughout the year. Vetiver is recommended on a rich soil plants only, this plant is not recommended for poor soil areas, because vetiver comprises of fibrous, odoriferous spongy material having high tensile strength.
Related Scents
Vetiver and Rose I think are not related plants is because Vetiver is from a root plant & Rose is a flower. (Morris, 1983) thinks that its related, but I do agree that both of these scents do last a long period of time. Rose has more of a womanly smell from the garden, of romantic pleasures, Vetiver is more outdoor men smell, that is similar to campfire.
Vetiver's Health Benefits
1.Enhances libido
2.Arouses feelings of sexual desire
3.Provides relief from inflammation
4.Boosts immune system
5.Provides relief to people suffering from insomnia
6.Improves & maintains good health of your nervous system
7.Helps heal wounds
8.It helps balances the activity of the sebaceous oil gland
9.Normalized oily skin
10.Clears acne
11.Prevents stretch marks
12.Depression
13.Anxiety
14.Everyday stress
15.Tension
This oil is a safe oil when diluted but I will still not have this oil in front of small children or people who are hyper sensitive to smells. This oil does not smell so pleasant for me alone, but I think it does blend well with other essential oils, such as: rose, grapefruit jasmine, lavender, ylang-ylang & other floral smells. This oil is not a popular smell, but it does have a lot of benefits when its a necessity for use.
Conclusion
Vetiver does have its place when it comes to medicinal use only for my recommendations.
